William Donald “Bill” Stevenson, 72, of Wintersville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026. He was the son of the late William Allison Stevenson and Betty Ruth Stevenson. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Caron Kay Wilkinson, Peggy Jane Corbett, and many beloved dogs and cats.
Bill was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on December 16, 1953, and achieved his GED in 1971. A proud Vietnam veteran, Bill defied the odds as a helicopter gunner that same year, surviving and making it back to the US. Never afraid to take the hardest job, Bill returned to Steubenville and worked on the railroad, in the coal mines, and spent over 25 years at Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corp in their coke plant, retiring in 2002.
Everyone who knew him recognized his wit, desire to live life loudly, his unmistakable laugh, and his generous heart. He spent years giving his time, energy, and sense of sportsmanship to coaching local Little League and youth boxing. Many children of the Ohio Valley benefited from his athletic guidance.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Stevenson, daughter Brooke Elizabeth Stevenson; son William Brian Stevenson, and cherished beagle mix dog Louie.
To everyone lucky enough to know him, to be seen by him, to be loved by him… There won’t be another like him. And he and his irrepressible spirit will be greatly missed.
According to his wishes, he will be cremated, and no service will be held at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home-Blaschalk Chapel, 115 Union St., Mingo Junction, OH 43938.
