Obituary

William F. Williams, 91, of Martins Ferry, OH, died Monday, Apr. 16, 2012. He was born Jan. 23, 1921 in Martins Ferry a son of the late William D. and Gladys (Johnson) Williams. Bill was a graduate of Ohio University and a former management employee of the Benwood Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and Wheeling Machine Products Co. of Wheeling. He was a member of the Upper Ohio Valley Club of the National Management Association. Bill was also a former trustee and member of Grace Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #38, and past president and member of the former Rotary Club all of Martins Ferry. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korean Wars serving on Destroyers USS Montgomery, USS Cone, and USS Richard Kraus. He was commissioned a Lt. Commander in the US Naval Reserve which led to his membership in T.R.O.A and Reserve Officers Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Helen V. (Davis) Williams, Sept. 4, 2011, his daughter Joyce Lee Williams, a grandson John Hildebrand and a sister Margaret Becker. Surviving are his son Edward D. Williams of Bridgeport, OH, two daughters; Sheila Hildebrand Minielly of Martins Ferry and Dana (Alan) Wood of Powell, OH, three grandchildren: William (Nicole) Hildebrand, Michael (Anne) Wood and Jeremy (Lauren) Wood and four great grandchildren. Friends will be received Thursday 3-7 pm at the Heslop Funeral Home, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry, OH. Funeral Services will be held Friday, Apr. 20, 2012, at 10:00 am, at Grace Presbyterian Church, 400 Hanover St., Martins Ferry with Rev. William O. Webster officiating. Burial follows at Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling, WV. Deacons of the church will hold prayer services Thursday at 6:45 pm in the funeral home. Military honors will be presented Friday at 9:00 am in the funeral home by the V.F.W. Belmont County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Presbyterian Church.
