Zana Vlcek Merkel, 87, lifelong resident of Dillonvale, Ohio, recently of Worthington Christian Village in Columbus, Ohio, died January 22, 2009. Zana was born in Dillonvale on September 12, 1921, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Barbara Kerner Vlcek. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Vlcek; and sisters: Mary Vomocil, Helen Tharp, Ida Bukac, Bess Murray Merkel, Anna Cermak, Tracy Robinson, Mildred Kaiser, and Agnes Smith.Zana is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edward "Bill" Merkel; sons Albert (Brenda), of Evanston, IL and Richard (Monica), of Worthington, OH; 6 grandchildren, Danielle, Jesse, Kate (Jim), Elizabeth (Scott), Chris, Laura; 3 great grandchildren, Ava, Kassidy, Zoe. Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home, 154 Second Street, Dillonvale, Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, from 1:00 until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. Entombment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Grove, Ohio.
