Zylpha I. (Davis) Best, 90, formerly of Elm St., Martins Ferry, OH died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at Westminster-Thurber Community , Columbus, OH. She was born Nov. 1, 1916 in West Middlesex, PA the daughter of the late Vincent W. and Irene M. (Lewis) Davis. She was a retired librarian for the Martins Ferry Public Library. Zylpha was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martins Ferry where she took an active roll in many boards and church organizations. She was also a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and a graduate of Youngstown State University. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Attorney William H. Best and a brother Earl V. Davis. Surviving are a son Bruce W. Best of Columbus, a daughter Melissa (Jeff) Herr of Martins Ferry, two granddaughters Sherri A. and Kelly L. Herr, and a great grandson Brady Childers. Friends will be received Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Heslop Funeral Home, Walnut at Fifth, Martins Ferry, OH where services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2007 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Bill N. Lawrence officiating. Burial follows in Belmont County Memorial Park, St. Clairsville, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the First Presbyterian Church.
