In Loving Memory of Allan Hornyak
March 3, 1951 - August 25, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Allan Hornyak, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, on August 25, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born on March 3, 1951, Allan was the cherished son of the late Isabelle and John Hornyak. He was a proud native of Bellaire, Ohio, where he began a remarkable life defined by passion, family, and an enduring legacy in the sport he loved.
Allan rose to local stardom during his high school years at St. John’s Central, where he led the basketball team with extraordinary skill and heart. His achievements on the court earned him the nickname "Bellaire Bomber," a title that would follow him as he continued his athletic journey at The Ohio State University. As a standout Buckeye, his dedication and talent left a lasting impression, culminating in his induction into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame — an honor he held with great pride.
While basketball was a defining part of his early life, Allan found lasting joy in the simple pleasures that came afterward. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending quiet mornings in the woods hunting, and sunny afternoons on the golf course. He had a soft spot for dogs and was rarely without a loyal companion at his side. These hobbies brought him peace and connection long after the roar of the crowds faded.
Allan is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Hornyak, and their two daughters: Amber Blanchard (Brian), and Autumn Leach (Christopher). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Justin and Jack Blanchard, and Brody and Amelia Leach.
He is also survived by his sisters, Dana Campbell (Roger), and Monica Schwender, and was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Harold Schwender. Allan leaves behind many beloved in-laws, nieces/nephews, and lifelong friends.
Friends will be received on September 13th, 2025, for a Memorial Service from 11 am until 12 pm Funeral Liturgy with Mass at St. John Catholic Church 415 37th Street Bellaire, OH 43906. Wilson Funeral Home Brookside is assisting the family.
