Carolyn Marsili Obituary

Carolyn Ann Marsili, 74, of Dillonvale, Ohio, passed away at Wheeling Hospital on April 6, 2024.  She was born on August 2, 1949, a daughter to the late William “Bill” and Geraldine “Gerry” Miller.

Carol was the owner of Marsili’s Family Restaurant for over 39 years.  She was adventurous and loved to travel; the ocean and the Great Lakes were a few of her favorite places.  She enjoyed working with her hands and loved to plant flowers.  Above everything, Carol adored her children and grandchildren and loved having them gather at her home for holidays and special occasions.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by a daughter, Stacy Cavicchia.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 42 years, Angelo Marsili; children, Tony (Tracy) Del Boccio, Christine (Ted) Hughes, Angelo (Liz) Marsili; son-in-law Rick Cavicchia; grandchildren, Christian, Ezra, Joey, Abby, Caleb, Lorenzo, Leonardo; and brothers, Rick and Bruce Miller.

All services are private and held at the convenience of the family.  Wilson Funeral Homes, 154 Second St., Dillonvale, Ohio is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities.

A note from her husband, Angelo.

My life with my Honey.

We met in March 1981 when my sister Sylvia brought Carol from Lorain, Ohio to meet my mother. We were married on October 26, 1981---7 months later. We struggled with layoffs, low pay, and a farm mortgage. In 1985 she took on the additional burden of buying and operating Marsili's Family Restaurant.

In 1990 during these difficult times at the age of 41 she gave birth to our son, Angelo. He was born with blocked intestines, and he needed 5 operations before he was 2 years old. In November and December that year she spent 35 consecutive days and nights at Columbus, Ohio Children's Hospital.

My wife's love for me---and my love for her---never wavered through those hard times which lasted 20 years---until 2001 when I was blessed to get back in the Consol Energy McElroy coal mine. We loved George Jones and Tammy Wynette for telling the story of this part of our lives in the song "Even the Bad Times are Good".

I worked as much overtime as my body could stand. She begged me NOT to work so much out of concern for my health and well-being. I insisted because I was determined to finally be able to provide her with the comforts and peace of mind she had been denied for so long. We had some good times and took actual vacations for the first time in our lives in '02, '03, '04.

In '05 she was diagnosed with lymphoma on August 2nd---her 56th birthday---hell of a birthday present. It took 2 years but she beat it and we had a couple more good years and nice vacations in '07 and '08.

On January 26, 2009 she had an operation at the Cleveland Clinic to remove a different tumor from her spinal cord---the cancer stopped but the damage was done---she never took another step the rest of her life. This situation causes someone to think about his or her own mortality. In this respect my Sweetheart and I found solace in the message in Willie Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" and likewise in Johnny Cash and June Carter's  "Far Side Banks of Jordan".

In order for my wife to provide me and the family with her comforting smiles, pleasant conversations, companionship, hugs and kisses she had to endure 15 years of being trapped in bed along with the additional torment of thousands of needle pricks she received from being hospitalized 49 times with a UTI.

She was the most beautiful, gracious, loving, unselfish person I ever met in my life. I am thankful I was blessed to be her loving husband for over 42 years.

Honey, I will miss you and love you forever, Ange
