Charles Edward Coss, 99, passed away in the early morning of May 3, 2020.Charles was born on June 26, 1920 in Bridgeport to Blanche Huston Coss and Paul Coss.
Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife Ruth Futey Coss, and daughter Judith Coss Barritt. He was the last surviving child of five brothers and sisters, Wilma Lofton, Dorothy Subasic, Cleo Kemp, and Tom Coss. He will always be remembered for his Wonderful sense of humor and love of family. When Charlie entered a room the mood immediately lightened due to his presence.
Charles graduated from Bridgeport High School and was a devoted Bridgeport Bulldog Booster. He served in the US Army during WWII and was the recipient of the Purple Heart as well as 3 bronze service stars, a good conduct medal and an Asiatic Pacific service Medal.
He was employed by the Association Box Factory as well as the M.F. and BH&F Machine Shop Bridgeport. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, the Bridgeport Foresters Club, the Lansing Sportsman Club, the American Legion and the Bridgeport Boosters.
Charles is survived by his son Ronald (Kay) Coss, five grandchildren Chris Coss (Shelley), Steve (Samantha) Coss, Seth (Erin) Barritt, Abby Barritt, and Joy (Matt) Edgell, six great grandchildren Cate, Camryn, and Micah Edgell, Jackson Barritt, and Deliah, and Dylan Coss, as well as a son-in law Dan Barritt. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews
Due to the CORONA-19 Virus there will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to a graveside service on Saturday May 9, 2020 at 1 pm at Weeks Cemetery Bridgeport with Dan Barritt Officiating. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Charlie’s memory to the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department at 301 Main Street Bridgeport, Ohio 43912.
