Clara Margaret “Peggy” Tomer, 96, of Bridgeport, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 in Good Shepherd Nursing Home. She was born on October 1, 1924 in Ontario, OH a daughter of the late Arnold and Josephine (Nightstep) Tennant. Peggy was the owner of Peggy Tomer’s Garage Shop, had her own radio show “Talk of the Town”, was a former buyer for the Stone & Thomas Department Store and sang for weddings, church services and with a dance band. She was also a member of the Lansing United Methodist Church, the Bridgeport Women’s Club, where she was a former President and the Bellaire Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Peggy was active in numerous clubs and a role model for women in the workplace well ahead of her time.
She is survived by four daughters, Brenda Ballog, Patricia (Mike) Velt, Janice (Harry) Ritner and Robin Roebel; a son, Jeff Tomer; 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Travis H. Tomer in 1981; a sister, Rae Swiger and two sons-in-law, Ed Ballog and Tom Roebel.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021, from 12:30 tp the time of service at 1:30 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside. Peggy's loving family will be conducting the service. Burial will be at Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
