Berwinkle, Edward W. (1938-2021)

Edward Walter Berwinkle age 83 of Berlin Township Delaware Ohio.

Passed away on Friday July 16, 2021 at the Country Club Nursing Facility of Delaware Ohio.

Ed was a loving – caring – son – husband – dad and grandpa.

He was born on February 09, 1938 in Martins Ferry, Ohio – Only child – to Ralph and Annabelle (Mills) Berwinkle.

 

He was a 1956 graduate of Martins Ferry High School and a 1961 graduate of Ohio University of Athens Ohio.  He was elected as an alternate to West Point in Annapolis, Maryland.

 

  He was in the Army August 1961 – October 1961 at Fort Knox, Kentucky for basic training.  September 1962 he was at Camp Picket, Virginia for 6 months of training and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1967.  He started his career with the Federal Service at the Letter Kenney Army Depot – Chambersburg, Pennsylvania from 1963-1967.  He later accepted a position at DCSC in Whitehall, Ohio.  He and his wife Rose and 2 week year old son Aaron moved to Columbus, Ohio and started out as GS-12 computer system analyst and served as both a programmer and analyst.  He later became CHIEF of DLA and dedicated his service to our country for 31 years until his retirement in 1994.

 

He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Rose Elaine Berwinkle (Coville) of Berlin Township of Delaware, Ohio.  Only child Aaron Lee, (Gabriella) and only grandchild Tommy Lee of Lewis Center and cousins through out the state.  Ed and Rose just celebrated there 55 wedding anniversary on May 27, 2021 at the Country Club facility Delaware, Ohio.  Ever since Ed was involved in a serious car accident Aug 17, 2018.  Ed experienced failing health issues related to Parkinson, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes along with his pacemaker.  His wife Rose was his solo care giver taking care of him at their home. As Ed’s health started to deteriorate it broke Rose’s heart that she could no longer take care of him and had to put him in a nursing facility.  Ed will also be sadly missed by friends George Elefteriou, Dave Dicks and Alan Hirth.

 

  Ed really enjoyed fishing, OSU football games in person or watch on TV, OSU mens basketball on TV and OSU Lady Buckeye Basketball games in person which he was a season ticket holder for 28 years along with The Rebounders club.  Traveling, site seeing and camping in their motor home as a family or as a couple all throughout the USA, all Canadian providences and Mexico.  Flying abroad to Europe, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy.  He really enjoyed our family fishing trips to Lake Gogebic in the UP of Michigan and Fushmi Lake in Ontario, Canada.  Closer to home fishing with his son Aaron at Alum Creek Lake.

 

Ed’s family would like to extend warmest thanks to the nurses and staff at the Country Club and all the ladies and hospice.

 

Friends may call Tuesday, July 20, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, Heslop Chapel, 415 Walnut St., Martins Ferry.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 pm in the funeral home with Reverend James Hoff officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
