Obituary

Edward John “Pap Pap” Ulczynski, 87, of Dillovale, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, in Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Wheeling.  He was born on April 18, 1936, in Dillonvale, a son of the late Edward “Smiles” and Stella (Makuch) Ulczynski. 

Ed loved spending time with his family, traveling, especially to Colorado, and frequently visiting all the businesses in town.  He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, where he served as an altar boy, usher, and eucharistic minister, served his country in the United States Air Force.  Retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel after 42 years. He was a member and former Commander of the Dillonvale American Legion, McCook Post 529, founding board member of the Jefferson County 911 System; CPR instructor and was a volunteer paramedic for Dillonvale and Mt. Pleasant Emergency Squads, serving the area for over 50 years.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary E. “Mel” (Laposki) Ulczynski; three daughters, Mary Beth (Bo) Panepucci, Hope (Tim Jarvis) Spangler, and Heather (Ed) Tausel; an honorary son, Steve “Stevie” Laposki; a sister, Theresa (Bill) Kerkuta; five grandchildren, Mary Panepucci, Kirsten McNeill, Nicole Spangler, Andrew Tausel and Alex Tausel; and three great grandchildren, Emily Slack and Sammy Slack and Owen McNeill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Stanley (Monica) Ulczynski.

Friends may call Friday from 4-8 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 154 2nd St., Dillonvale.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 am in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 139 Liberty St., Dillonvale with Msgr. John Kolesar officiating.  Burial will follow in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.  Military Honors will be provided by the Dillonvale American Legion.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 221 Hannah Ave, Adena, OH  43901 in Ed’s memory.
