George Edward Lendon, (82) of Bethesda, was called home to his Heavenly Father, early on Wednesday morning, February 4th. George was born the youngest of thirteen siblings, in Buttermilk valley at the family farm outside Flushing in June of 1943. He graduated from Union Local High School, and was part of the first season of UL Jets football. Following a time at Hiram College, and a few years in the Army Reserve, George returned to the area and married his high school love, Candy (Hunt). Their marriage was a lifelong witness to the strength of family, love, devotion, and faith.
George and Candy loved to spend time with family and friends. Blessed with opportunities to travel through his work, they visited places like Hawaii, Scotland, and England. An avid golfer, George’s crowning joy was to play the Old Course at Saint Andrews. But his true joy always remained his family and the family farm. Summer evenings were often punctuated by the familiar sound of his old tractor, mowing the hay.
George was well known for his work as a State Farm agent, serving the community of Belmont County from the mid-1970s through his retirement in 2012. He was active in Rotary Club, Full Gospel Business Men, and served multiple roles at East Richland Friends Church. George helped coach Bethesda Pee-Wee baseball, and was a longtime supporter of local sports teams and school academics.
George and Candy had two children, Lori Ann (Ken Witt) and George Earl (Jennifer). Grandchildren include Garrett Witt, Sadie Lendon, Bea Lendon, and Millie Lendon. George is survived by a sibling, Martha.
Funeral services will be held at Wilson Funeral Home in Bethesda. Visitation will be Sunday the 8th, from 4 pm to 7pm. Funeral service will be Monday the 9th, at 11 am, with interment at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Memorial gifts/donations are directed to Royal Family Kids Camp, c/o East Richland Friends Church.
