Hilles Kemp Obituary

HILLES GREGORY KEMP

Hilles Gregory ‘Greg’ Kemp, 65, father to 8 children, grandfather to 12, passed away in his Belmont home on Friday, May 3, 2019.  Born March 12, 1954 to Rosalene and the late Hilles Kemp, Greg outlived numerous doctors who warned he would not live past the age of 30, and disproved speculations that he would never father any children, with gusto.

Never one to accept the limitations of any boundaries placed before him, Greg selflessly touched the lives of all those he met. As a boy, Greg was actively involved in the Boy Scouts, ultimately becoming an Eagle Scout. After earning a Masters in Education, he devoted himself to his students of Chemistry, Physics, Math, Biology, Physiology, or whatever course or extra-curricular he was needed for. He inspired students at Shadyside High School and Union Local High School for a combined teaching career of 30 years. Greg not only inspired his students, he fostered a desire and thirst for knowledge in his children and grandchildren. With a hands-on approach to teaching, and a persistent smile on his face, he created a fun learning environment where there was “no such thing as a dumb question”.

Greg spent his entire life as an active member of the church, living as an example of what each Christian should aspire to be. After retirement, Greg became an active member of the Gideons, spending many hours aiding children in the Sargus Juvenile Detention Center, and spreading the joy he had found in his life.

As Greg’s health worsened, he never wavered from his joyful persona, and his endlessly devoted wife, Ann, passionately cared for his every need. The love they share was a beacon of light unto the world.

Greg’s memory will live on through all those who knew and loved him, most notably expressed by his wife of 35 years, Ann Kemp; 8 children, Julianna (Rocky) Hise, G. Elijah (Dana) Kemp, Jeremiah (Sarah) Kemp, Hillery (Jeff) Lucas, Isaiah Kemp, Olivia (Aaron) Bolt, Michaela (Anthony) Paree, Hosanna Kemp; 12 grandchildren; mother, Rosalene Kemp; and sister, Rose Marie (Bruce) Mehl.

The family would like to extend immense gratitude towards the devoted members of staff at the Davita Dialysis Center, without whom, Greg would not have seen the birth of several of his grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited for visitation, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 from 3:00 pm, until the time of service beginning at 7:00 pm, First Baptist Church of Barnesville, 94 Shady Lane, Barnesville, Ohio.  Pastors Joe Thorton, Rodney West, and Joe Hise will officiate.  Interment will take place privately with Greg’s family.
