James W. “Jim” Purtiman Sr., 76 of Bridgeport, died peacefully at his home on Friday August 23, 2019. He was born on February 8, 1943 in Glen Dale, WV, to James B. and Mary Marie Minor Purtiman.
Jim was a US Army Veteran, he retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Beech Bottom Plant after 27 years. He was a life member of the American Legion, a member of the Lansing Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time at the Lansing Senior Center.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Connie S. Purtiman, his second wife Nancy L. Beeson Purtiman, son-in-law Richard Meighen, and son-in-law Mike Tribett.
Jim is survived by his first wife, and mother of his 5 children Judy Purtiman of McMechen, four daughters Tonya Tribett of McMechen, Tamara (Ron) Marsh of Moundsville, Rea Leoni of Weirton, Jamie Meighen of Glen Dale, and his son James (Lea Ann) Purtiman Jr. of Leesville, LA, a sister and caregiver Nancy F. Purtiman of Moundsville, 7 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, also several nieces nephews, and cousins.
According to Jim’s wishes there will be no public visitation and private interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family.
