Katie Decker Obituary

Katie Ann Decker of Beallsville, Ohio blessed her family with 58 years of love and friendship here on earth. She passed away suddenly at her home Saturday, May 27th, 2023.  She was born October 27th, 1964 in Bellaire Hospital,  a  daughter of Lavella Hartley Decker and the late Harold Decker.

Katie was an exceptional person.  She was always nurturing and teaching her children and grandchildren the ways of nature, right down to taking them on hikes and fishing with whatever they could find and then building their own fire to cook it up.  She absolutely loved spending time with her family and enjoyed hiking and walking the creeks with them.  She was an aspiring photographer and nature photography was her favorite.  She also enjoyed playing games and shooting some hoops.  She was a master at “All Around the World.” She was an avid deer hunter for years and loved taking care of animals, especially raising animals through rehabilitation.  She enjoyed feeding her critters; birds, squirrels and chipmunks, while watching them as she sat out on her porch swing.  She also had quite the green thumb and always kept up with her landscaping.  Well-known as an amazing cook and baker, Katie's pies would be requested at most any family event.  She had a love and talent for woodcrafting and loved doing those with her grandchildren.  Her eye for interior design was impeccable.  The unfortunate side of Katie’s story is that she had many years of painful suffering from multiple ailments but always did her best to be there for all who needed her.  If you knew Katie, you knew she was the most amazing and loving mom.  Her children were her life and then so were her grandchildren as they came throughout the years.  Above all else, she was the mother and grandmother many would dream of.  To say she will be missed would be an absolute minimization of the tremendous void her loss will leave within the hearts of her family.

In addition to her father, Harold, Katie was preceded in death by her daughter Amber McFrederick.  Left to hold her dear memory are her mother Lavella Hartley Decker, of Beallsville, Ohio; her children, Laset (Randy) Powers of Beallsville, Ohio, Miranda (Zachary) Heslop of Centerville, Ohio, and Levi McFrederick of Beallsville, Ohio; her siblings, Zelda (Eddie) Boston, Robert (Sheila) Decker, both of Beallsville, Ohio, and Brady (Pam) Decker of Powhatan, Ohio; 11 grandchildren.  They are all left to cherish countless beautiful memories.

Family and friends will be received Thursday, June 1st at the Beallsville Church of Christ, 52125 Township Road 134, Beallsville, Ohio from 3pm until the time of the funeral service at 5pm where Minister Jeff Rich will offer words of comfort.

In keeping with Katie's giving spirit, in lieu of flowers and keepsakes her family requests that contributions be made to Cancer Gas Cards, Inc., c/o Shirley Brown, 48397 Keylor Hill Road, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
