Laura “Chris, Chrissy, Red” Ormanec Chesnick, 99, of Westerville, OH, formerly of Blaine, OH died April 6, 2019 at Country View of Sunbury Nursing Home, a few months before her 100th birthday. She was born July 14, 1919, in Blaine, OH, daughter of the late Rudolph and Anna Ormanec. Laura joined the Navy in World War II and held the rank of Seaman First-Class and Storekeeper Second-Class. She was the former owner and operator of Lad’s Meat Market, (formerly known as Ormanec Grocery) until it closed in 1981. She was also an Accounts Receivable Clerk for Gatto Food Services in Bellaire, OH where she retired at the age of 93. Laura was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Blaine, OH where she belonged to the Catholic Women’s Club and was also a member of several PTA’s, the Polish National Alliance, and for many years volunteered for the March of Dimes. Laura was an avid bowler and participated in many bowling leagues from California to St. Clairsville, OH. She enjoyed dancing at the Melody Manor in Lansing, OH and other establishments like the Polish Club, American Legion and the Eagles in Bridgeport with her late husband, Ladimer. Laura loved to crochet, and touched many lives with her craft. If you came to her house, she would insist that you leave with a scarf. She crocheted scarves for children at an orphanage in Kenya, and made scarves to sell at the Holiday Market at The Medallion Club to raise money for the Medallion Scholarship Fund. In 2016, she crocheted eighty scarves for participants at a 2017 annual bowling event. Many babies were blessed with the gift of Laura’s afghans to keep them warm and cozy. She also enjoyed playing Solitaire and Scrabble. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ladimer W. Chesnick; brothers, William and Theodore Ormanec; sisters, Magadalena (William) Talick, Leona (Alex) Switaj, Loretta Jankowski, Freda (Gene) Eble, Theodora (Bruno) Doleski, Edna (Cecil) Brown. She is survived by sons, Christopher (Rebecca) Chesnick of Westerville, OH, Ladimer Chesnick of Bethesda, OH; daughter, Anna Maria Haridi of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Laurienne (Joe) Wolfe of Dunedin, FL, Sarah (Corey) Gibbons of Martins Ferry, OH, Ladimer Chesnick of Columbus, Brittany (Kyle) Friede of Jacobsburg, OH, Laken Marshall of Kissimmee, FL, Larissa (Kylas) Walsh of Huntsville, AL; great-grandchildren, Celia and Bo Wolfe, Keigan Friede, Payton Thompson, Matalyn McCollum; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service for the family will be held at Belmont Memorial Cemetery in St. Clairsville at a future date. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, Bridgeport.
