Lee Cunard Obituary

LEE CUNARD

Lee Cunard, 78, of Barnesville, Ohio, entered into eternal rest at his home on December 30, 2021. He was born in Barnesville on December 6, 1943, to the late Harold C. and Auddie Mae (Gibbons) Cunard. Together with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy K. (Adkins) Cunard.

His memory and legacy lives on through his son, Jim “Frankie” Cunard of Barnesville; his daughter, Barb (Joe) Polgar of Follansbee, West Virginia; grandchildren, Jason and
Ryan; and brother, Harold “Artie” Cunard of Bethesda.

He was retired from Ohio Valley Paving (later known as Shelly and Sands) and attended Assumption Catholic Church. Proverbs 17:6 says that “children’s children are the crown of old men”, and Lee’s heart reflected this glorious verse of God’s Word through his love for his two grandchildren. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and sports, especially hockey, football and
baseball.

In honor of Lee’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. Interment will be at the convenience of his family at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Barnesville. In Lee’s memory, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to Ryan’s Prayer of Hope and Healing for Autism c/o The Christian Assembly of Follansbee, PO Box 96, Follansbee WV 26037. The organization was founded by his grandson Jason in honor of his other grandson Ryan, who has Autism, to help people with speech disorders through providing iPads to be used as communication devices. Lee inspired the organization’s iPad initiative by providing an iPad for Ryan, which eventually led to Ryan being able to express himself verbally independent of the iPad. Lee clung to the promises provided in Psalm 23 throughout his life, often reciting it to himself during the challenges of life in humble reliance upon the good Lord and Shepherd of his soul.

He will be remembered in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and family for his deep love and generosity, along with his steadfast strength and will.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
