Nancy J. (Edgell) Dewey

  Nancy J. Dewey, 87, of St. Clairsville, passed away peacefully Wednesday August 12, 2020 after a long illness at Forest Hills Care Center. She was born November 24, 1932 in Power, WV, and the daughter of the late Janet (Waddell) Edgell.

  Nancy was a wife, mother, and advocate for children. After graduating from West Liberty University, she married her sweetheart Ed, and raised four sons, Edward Joseph Dewey of Canal Winchester, David (Mary) Dewey of Denver CO, John Dewey of St. Clairsville, and Tom (Christine) Dewey of Reynoldsburg. The family expanded to include grandchildren Jacob, Joseph, Heather, and Tanya, and one great granddaughter Leeia.   

  Nancy was a retired school teacher for Wheeling Cental, and Warwood High School, and a Catholic by faith, she was a member of the St. Clairsville School board, where she served as President, a member of the Child Study Club, AARP, a member of Womens Policy & Research Committee for the State of Ohio, and she also ran for Ohio State Representative in 1992.

In addition to her mother she was preceded in death by her loving Husband Edward Dewey in 1998, a granddaughter Heather Ann Dewey, and a sister Dottie Patterson.

   Due to the COVID-19 virus private services will be conducted by Fr. John Mucha. Graveside service will be held at 11 am Thursday August 20, 2020, at Linwood Cemetery Blaine. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Belmont County Animal Shelter 45244 National Road St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
