Richard Lee Savoldi

SAVOLDI, Richard Lee, 85, of Grove City, Ohio passed away December 12, 2020.  He was born October 2, 1935 in Wheeling, WV to the late Frank and Rosemary (Cara) Savoldi. 

Always proud of his Italian heritage, Richard was the son of a hard-working immigrant shoemaker and seamstress.  He made his parents proud by graduating from Wheeling High School, being awarded a basketball scholarship to college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree from West Liberty College and earning a master’s degree from West Virginia University in history and education.  His musical talent playing the viola so impressed Henry Mazer, conductor of the Wheeling Symphony, that Richard auditioned and became the youngest member of the symphony at the age of 16.

He served his country in the Army Reserves and entertained listeners of WOMP-FM as a weekend announcer playing classical music.

Richard spent a lifetime devoted to teaching history at high schools including Bridgeport, Adena, Bellaire and then Union Local High School, where he found his highest love of working with special needs students.  He retired to Wooster, OH. and later moved to Meadow Lands, PA where he was a member of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church with a strong devotion to The Blessed Mother.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Salvador) Savoldi for 51 years.  Father of Greg Savoldi of Columbus, OH and Anita Savoldi Martin (Ty) of Cincinnati, OH.  Grandfather of Hadley, Michael, and Jordis.  Also survived by sister Donna Savoldi Schmitt (Thomas) of Pittsburgh, nieces and nephews.

Friends received 10:30-12 noon Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Bridgeport, OH followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 P.M. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Colerain, OH. Burial after at Holly Memorial Gardens, Colerain.
