TO GETHER AGAIN:

Robert J. Ray of St. Clairsville, passed away at Liza’s Place surrounded by family on August 7, 2021.

He was born November 14, 1934, in Wheeling. He was the son of John Ray and Lillie (Porter) Ray.

  He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Margaret (Hadsell) Ray and a brother John Ray.

Bob is survived by a brother Bill Ray of Arizona, and a sister Jane (Robert) Thomas of Brookside, OH, sons Ted (Angela) Ray of Westerville, OH, Tim (Christine) Ray of Houston, TX, Troy Ray of Peoria, AZ, and a daughter Terre (Bill) Brubaker of Wheeling. He is survived by 8 grandchildren Lt. Cmdr., Mary Beth (Jose) Ray of Sicily, Matthew (Lindsay) Ray of Galloway, Daniel Ray of Columbus, OH, Michael Ray of Dallas, TX, Kyle (Katelyn) Ray of Huston, TX, and Bryan Ray of Dallas, TX, Kathryn (Ludo) Brubaker MD of Boston, MA, Capt. William (Erin) Gagnon-Brubaker of Manhattan, KS. He is also survived by a great grandson Robert Maxwell Ray, of Galloway, OH. Bob also leaves a special friend Winnie Foose of Wheeling.

He was a 1952 graduate of Linsly Military Institute where he lettered in football, basketball, and ran track. He was all state in football and played in the OVAC All-Star game. He was a 1956 graduate of West Liberty State Collage.

Bob was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville. He retired from First Energy, the Burger and Sammi Plants. Then he went to work at the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley, delivering mail to physician’s offices, making friends throughout the valley, and bragging about his grandchildren to all who would listen.

After his retirement he enjoyed visiting with his friends at Wheeling Downs. Center Market, and just sitting by the river watching the boat traffic and people passing by.

According to Bob’s wishes private service for the family will be held on Sunday August 8, 2021. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held in the future at the convenience of the family. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, a contribution could be made to the Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
