Rome Barr Obituary

Rome Ellsworth Barr, 95 formerly of Martins Ferry, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2021, at Ohio Health Doctors Hospital in Columbus. He was born September 16, 1926, in Martins Ferry, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Marie Barr.

He was retired after 40 years from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel. Rome was a member of the Scotch Ridge Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department, a Veteran of the United States Navy, serving in WWII, stationed on the USS Loy Destroyer Escort, a member of the American Legion Post 38, the former VFW Post 3613, the Civil War Round Table, and the Park Legion Bowling League, and he loved his home town, Martins Ferry, where he spent close to 90 years of his life.  

In addition to his parents, Rome was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rhea L. Barr and son Robert A. Barr.

Rome is survived by his daughter Rhonda Jo Barr of Columbus, three grandchildren Walter, Betty and Aaron, and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend Graveside services on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 12:00 noon at Riverview Cemetery in Martins Ferry, with Pastor Joe Ellis officiating.

The family requests no flowers and any donations be made to animal welfare organizations.
