Russell Vincent Thompson Sr, 78, of Lake Alfred, Florida passed away peacefully in his home Monday, January 6th, 2025, with his family by his side. Russell was born November 30, 1946, in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He is the son of the late Vince and Garnell (Hores) Thompson. Russell graduated from Martins Ferry High School in 1964 where he wrestled and played football.
Russell moved to Florida after years of being a draftsman, working at Consol and operating R.V. Thompson Excavating. He continued to work for Walt Disney World and retired after twenty-five years. Russell was a veteran and proudly served in the United States Army Reserves.
For enjoyment, Russell loved traveling to his property in York, SC that he built with his own hands and always enjoyed going to visit his family and friends in Ohio. He attended many NASCAR races with family and friends. Russell enjoyed trying his luck at the casinos. He loved to build and remodel small and large projects alike. Russell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to see them in volleyball, baseball, and football.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Joe Thompson.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sharon (Buza) Thompson, children, Tammy (Scott) Birchler and, Russell (Kari) Thompson Jr. His 5 grandchildren, Kaitlin (Fox) Baldwin, Brett, Blake, Addison, and Grayson. His 4 great-grandchildren, Fox, Lion, Ellie, and Bear. His sister, Carla (Thompson) Wilson and his brother-in-law, Dale Wilson. As well as all of his cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends to celebrate his life on 14th of January 2025 between 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Rd. Brookside, and then from 9 am till funeral mass at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church St. Clairsville on 15th, of January 2025. He will be laid to rest immediately following his mass at Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove with Full military grave side service will be conducted by the Belmont County Veterans Association.
