S. Charles Jennette Obituary

S. Charles (Charlie) Jennette, age 83, of Lansing, passed away in Liza’s Place on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 with his loving and devoted wife, Mary Regina (Gina) at his side.

Charlie was born on March 24, 1937 in Wheeling, a son of the late Sylvester and Miriam Jennette of Blaine.  He was a self-made and self-taught man who never met a challenge that he backed down from nor faced a problem he could not solve.  A fearless entrepreneur, he started the Jennette Welding Company in Blaine, where he and his crew took on numerous projects around the Ohio Valley including welding, fabrication and metal machining.  Charlie was a hands-on guy that managed and worked each project from start to finish, including sales, material procurement, engineering design, fabrication and installation of the final product.  He was also a skilled crane and heavy equipment operator and a long-time member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 132.

He enjoyed traveling and vacations at the beach with his whole family and several trips to Anchorage, Alaska visiting Gina’s brother Rudy and his family and salmon fishing while he was there.  He and Gina were avid sports fans and logged many miles going to his grandchildren’s sporting events in High School and College.  He loved to golf and was an excellent woodworker, spending many hours in his “Smoke Shack” workshop creating furniture and wood turnings.  He and Gina were avid fans of the WV Mountaineers, Steelers and Pirates.

Charlie never met a stranger.  With a boisterous and flamboyant personality, he was not soon forgotten by those he met.

In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister Jane Keiger and a brother-in-law, Rudy Berus of Anchorage.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dr. Mary Regina (Berus) Jennette; his daughter, Debbie Saffell and her husband Greg; 2 grandchildren, Eric Saffell and his wife Bonnie and Renee (Saffell) Green and her husband Aaron.  He was especially proud of his great grandchildren, Cole and Josie Saffell and Heidi and Darcie Green.  He is also survived by 2 brothers, Jack Jennette and his wife Amy and Jeff Jennette and his wife Stephanie; nephew, Wes Jennette and nieces, Danielle Gaus and Heather Artman and a brother-in-law, Frances Berus and his wife Diane.

Friends may call Friday from 4-7 at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Rd., Brookside.  Due to the Covid19 pandemic Funeral Service will be private, with Father John Mucha officiating.  Internment will be in Holly Memorial Gardens, Pleasant Grove.
