Troy C. Thurnes 58, of St. Clairsville, passed away Friday May 29, 2020 at Wheeling Hospital, after a brief and sudden illness with his sisters by his side. He was born August 19, 1961 in Wheeling, a son of the late Richard “Coach” Thurnes, and his mother Dorothy (Lewandowski) Thurnes of St. Clairsville.
Troy was a 1979 graduate of St. Clairsville High School and a 1983 graduate of Ohio University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was previously employed as General Manager of the Holiday Inn Express in St. Clairsville. For the past several years, however, Troy devoted himself to caring for his mother and father. A quiet and humble man, Troy never asked for thanks or recognition; but his sisters are eternally grateful for his selflessness and dedication to his family.
Troy was an avid fan of the Steelers, Dolphins, Buckeyes, Penguins, Pirates, Indians, and Cavs. If there was a game on TV, he could be found watching it, usually with his buddies at the West Texas Roadhouse. He was a kind and gentle soul who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his father, Troy was preceded in death by his brother Dean Thurnes, and his buddy “Buckeye”.
In addition to his mother, Troy is survived by his sisters Leslie Gloin of St. Augustine, FL, and Kerry (Scott) Formick of Rootstown, OH, a niece Alexandra (Nate) Quellhorst of, Columbia, MD, nephews Dylan Gloin of St. Augustine FL, Connor and Garrett Formick both of Rootstown, OH, a great nephew Lincoln Gloin.
Because of the COVID-19 virus there will be no public visitation and services will be private. Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside assisting the family. In lieu of flower memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Belmont County Animal Shelter 45244 National Road St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
