VERNON E. VAN DYNE
In the quiet morning of August 26, 2021, Vernon E. Van Dyne passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Jacobsburg, Ohio on March 11, 1934 to John and Mary (Burkhart) Van Dyne who preceded him in death. Also preceding Vernon in death was his son, Paul Van Dyne, February 8, 2008; sister, Helen Huffman; and brothers, Richard and Clarence Van Dyne.
A very devoted family man, Vernon enjoyed time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. A very stoic man outwardly, who stood strong in situations, inwardly was like a big teddy bear, genuine, honest, and caring. He enjoyed camping, building things with his hands, and loved dogs.
Vernon served his country in the US Army Special Forces known as the Green Berets, designed to deploy and execute nine doctrinal missions.
Vernon will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by those who survive; his wife of 43 years, Delsa Van Dyne of Barnesville; daughters, Jennifer (Samuel) Belk of Grove City, Christine (Ryan) Gallagher of Barnesville; and grandchildren, Brock and Dru Belk, Ryder and Parker Gallagher.
Family and friends will be welcome for visitation, Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, Patron Funeral Homes & Crematory Kelly Kemp Braido, 702 E. Main Street where the service will begin at 4:00 pm. Pastor Ed Eberhart will be officiating. Belmont County Veterans Association will present Military Honors prior to the service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family. With the uncertainties, once again, of the COVID and the Delta Variant, the family is requesting that everyone entering the funeral home must wear a mask.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Guernsey County Hospice and Barnesville Hospital for all their care, love, and support to Vernon and his family during this tender time.
Please consider making a donation in Vernon’s name to the Belmont County Animal Shelter, 45244 National Road, W, St. Clairsville, Ohio 43950.
